Overview

The ONE-KILO CLUB is an association of pelvic surgeons who are committed to furthering the technical horizons of minimally invasive surgery and who have demonstrated that commitment by their accomplishments. Hence our motto, EX UNGUE LEONEM (By its claw one tells the lion.) The extirpation of a uterus that weighs one kilogram or more without a laparotomy has been chosen as the test of that commitment not because it is necessarily the most challenging minimally invasive operation that we perform, but because it is both reliable and verifiable test of confidence, expertise and commitment to vaginal and minimally invasive surgery that is the criterion for membership of this exclusive club.

It has become evident over the years, as the contrived contraindications to vaginal and laparoscopic surgery have been whittled away one by one, that only those with sufficient experience with these techniques are qualified to test and define their upper limits. Otherwise, numerous women will continue to be denied the benefits of minimally invasive techniques on the caprice of the unqualified. The minimally invasive surgical art can be most effectively advanced and its horizons extended by collaboration and an ongoing dialogue between like-minded and experienced surgeons because efficient solutions to the surgical challenges we continue to face can only be engendered through the exchange of cutting-edge techniques between surgeons of proven and diverse background. The raison d'etre of the ONE KILO CLUB is to foster such a meeting of the minds.

Objectives of the One Kilo Club

The main objective of the Club is to provide a forum that encourages greater surgical knowledge and skills among already outstanding pelvic surgeons.
The goals of the Club are:
  1. To exchange surgical knowledge among the members.
  2. To promote and encourage the improvement of surgical techniques and skills in advanced and challenging pelvic surgery.
  3. To encourage collaborative basic and clinical research in pelvic surgery among the members.
  4. To be a credible source of information for professionals and the public at large.
  5. To hold regular meetings to encourage both social and professional exchange of ideas among members and guests.
  6. To regularly publish a newsletter.
  7. To create a liaison with the editorial board of a established national and international journal to publish selected papers from the meetings of the One-Kilo Club or to publish the summarized discussions of the meeting. This collaboration will enhance the international exposure and provide the formal recognition that the One-Kilo Club requires.
